Project Akshar

What the Project is about?

Project Akshar works with the motive of enabling a brighter future for children from low-income communities by providing them with desired knowledge to achieve their true potential and acquire enough competence for next project, Project Pathshala. A continuous effort has been made throughout the year by regular learning sessions in different demarcated centers. The overwhelming progress of 400 children have benifitted from Project Akshar and the numbers are still increasing.

How it Started?

“Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten.”
• Initiation: Project Akshar was started in 2015, as the first and foremost segment of the initiative for imparting education to the children of weaker section of society.

How it Works?

• Selection of Students: Selection of children under Project Akshar is done on the basis of some predetermined criteria. We survey children living on slum areas, traffic signals and various parts of towns and it's outskirts under the project, where children are generally found engaged in labour work, selling newspaper roadside, working on stalls, doing paid household chores and this child labour. Under the survey, meeting children and their guardian, make them aware of the importance of education and also understanding their perspectives and problems, It has been found that most of the selected students are either not attending schools at all or the ones who attend negligently due to their prevailing circumstances.

• Commencing with the education of selected students: A pre-planned multidisciplinary approach is followed to cover following subjects - Science, Mathematics, Sanskrit, Social Science, English, Hindi and such others. Regular learning session from Monday to Friday, two hours long, in different centers has been organised for improving the fundamental comprehension of elementary education of selected students.
